Naming from Absence
The artist name “Goyo” (Stillness) paradoxically originates from the very state that was most absent from my life. The noise within me often shook the way I saw the world, and while I could offer warmth and kindness to others, I frequently found myself unable to extend that same comfort to myself.
The name Goyo is a quiet expression of my longing to fill that absence.
The Sensation of Embrace, Dongja (Prototype)
My recent work is a sensory response to a world that feels increasingly tense and divided. When the emotional temperature between people grows cold, we instinctively seek a place of warmth and refuge. What I longed for was something simple: a comforting presence that would embrace me unconditionally and allow me, even for a moment, to forget the sharp edges of the world.
The declaration attributed to the Buddha at birth—“I have come to bring peace to the world”—feels, to me, like an invitation into stillness.
My work, Dongja, is an attempt to bring such a being of absolute peace into the reality we inhabit today.
I hope this gentle presence can become a small embrace that nurtures warmth within a cold age.
